Deon Tanzer, MA International Monetary Fund |
Deon Tanzer is the IMF’s regional advisor on Government Finance Statistics (GFS) at the Center of Excellence in Finance in South East Europe.  He advises compilers in various national institutions on how to develop GFS data and data reporting, for the IMF, the World Bank and the EU in compliance with the fiscal reporting requirements, the so-called Maastricht deficit and debt and the Excessive Deficit Procedure or EDP reporting requirements of Eurostat. His work funded by the Swiss Government.
Prior to this, Deon has worked as an Economist at IMF Headquarters in Washington DC for 3 years, covering a wide set of areas concerning methodology, capacity development, and surveillance and data. For instance, during his tenure he developed a set of e-Learning videos on GFS. Further, he was the coordinator of the Public Sector Debt Statistics Working Group, that was working under the auspices of the Task Force on Financial Statistics as well a coordinator of Third and Fourth IMF Statistical Forum. During 7 years working at Statistics Netherlands he was Senior Statistician GFS, as well as National Accounts Researcher. Prior experience include Labour Market Researcher for Ecorys Netherlands and entrepreneur in the service industry.
Deon is a national of South Africa and the Netherlands. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce, Economics, at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 1992 and a Masters of Arts, Develop Economics, and Transitional Economics, at the University of Amsterdam in 1999.
